One of the lowest attendances in the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins are far from a playoff contender. Mario Lemiuiex is most likely done playing and the Penguins have been stuck in the Mellon Dome, the "Igloo", with no new arena plans on the way.

The Buffalo Sabres lack a real fan base in the small market of up-state New York. In 2003, the Sabres declared bankruptcy. The franchise has lost large amounts of money and few playoff appearances doesn't help either.

Having a hockey team in the deep South may not have been such a good idea. The first couple years of this expansion franchise has been rocky and without playoff apperances. The NHL expanded too fast.
