TableTop-ThrowAways

LapRugs

Here are a few more of what I like to call my lap rugs, or table-top rugs.
Because of being too small for much else.

They are really "ThrowAway" works because they are just something to work on in between times when working on a worthwhile undertaking.
They are good for trying out patterns or technique because they are quick to set-up and discard.
They are also good to give away to those who wish to have them, because they are simply made.
They are good to make also, when a break is needed to just sit for a while and weave out a mindless pattern, machine-like.

The little loom I have made to weave them on is also given to someone who wishes to be taught to weave.
It is made from a few boards and some dowels and cords, with a few hardwood shed-sticks and pic-tools. Plus a comb or two and a set of my twist-needles for the finishing passes of the woof.
I have set up a few for under fifteen dollars.
My design looks like a roman numeral 2 and the piece being woven wraps around the outside, as opposed to being inside a frame.
The advantages to this is ease of working the shed-stick into the sheds, and being able to weave a piece almost two thirds longer than the loom being worked with.

The disadvantage are not having the side beams to tie to.
This is a slight consideration and easily overcome with side-cords.

I may have some photos soon, as I have someone coming to learn, so will send one back with them when they go.
