Center Street Plaza 5/15/03 - New Plaza Planned for Center Street
The proposed Center Street Plaza, looking from the Hilton, (the same vantage point as the first picture) with the new parking garage and commercial site on the left where the Hotel Casey used to be.
A picture of Center Street in 2000. (It is the alley between the now demolished Hotel Casey on the left and the Verizon building on the right). Center Street was closed between these two buildings for a number of years with a huge mound of dirt. The road was closed due to the Hotel Casey's deteriorating condition and the hazard of debris falling on pedestrians. A huge mound of dirt was used...um, I'm not sure why. The new Hilton convention center has since been built in the foreground of this shot.
Center Street in 2002, looking towards the Hilton; notice the dirt mound has been removed, and all of the windows in the Verizon building are no longer boarded up on the side that faced the Casey. The former Casey Laundry Building is in the foreground of this shot on the left. It is now the Art Gallery and loft apartments, as seen below in 2004 - work on the garage is expected soon.
