Ilse Witch
by Terry Brooks
Terry Brooks returns to the well-loved Shannara series which established him in the fantasy genre. This is the first book in a new trilogy titled The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara which takes place 130 years after The Talismans of Shannara. Brooks, once again, ensembles a great cast of characters, and after 20 years of writing, his writing is now so refined, there are moments in the book which just takes my breath away. In Brook's tradition, the book has a lot of twists and surprises, which makes it all the more readable. But I am not going to spoil any of those here. The book ends with a great cliffhanger, one that is so intense and suspenseful you'll feel both cheated and tense with anticipation for the next book, Antrax.

by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
Dagnarus and his whipping boy Gareth resort to Void magic to topple Dagnarus' half brother and crown prince Helmos from grace in this epic story from fantasy master storytellers Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The first book in the Sovereign Stone Trilogy, this is a great fantasy read by Weis and Hickman. The story and characters are well-told although the authors have departed from their traditional way of story-telling by telling this story from the point of view of the protagonists, i.e. Dagnarus and his whipping boy.

Wizard's First Rule
by Terry Goodkind
One of the best fantasies ever written. Will satisfy every fantasy-lover's expectations: strong central character, dark evil forces, and an epic (also love) story with realistic human emotions and interaction. But ultimately, it is Terry Goodkind's magical language that makes all these happen. The sequel, Stone of Tears, is also a must-read, in order to truly savour and make the epic Sword of Truth series a truly gratifying reading experience.
