Name: Hilath Rasheed
Born: Sept 11, 1975
Education: BA in Mass Communication, Curtin University of Technology, Australia
Profession: Journalism

Latest news: On Oct 30, 2003, I resigned from my twin posts of Assistant Editor of Haveeru Daily (www.haveeru.com.mv) and The Evening Weekly (www.eveningweekly.com.mv), Maldives' leading Dhivehi-language daily newspaper and English-language weekly newspaper as a sign of protest for not been able to write the events of September 2003 the way I want to. But because I still have a bond with Haveeru Daily until November 2006, I had no choice but to return back or else face legal consequences. By the time of November 2006, the time when my bond with Haveeru will be over, if press conditions do not improve, then I have no choice but to leave the profession of journalism altogether. But I do hope to return to my best-loved profession one day once conditions for journalism are more favorable in Maldives.
Other interests: Literature -- basically anything to do with writing and reading. I am also a movie buff, and to some extent, a music lover. If I am not indoors, you can catch me at the famed Varunulaa waves off Male's Lonuziyaaraiy Kolhu area, Maldives' premier surfers' hangout. Here (in this pic) I am with my African Grey Parrot, my best buddy. You can always count on your animal friends -- they always come back to you!
My philosophy (if there is such): I like to strike a balance in life, that is, I would like my life to be stable and in control, but at the same time I wouldn't mind going out there having some fun and taking risks. (Perhaps, this is one reason why I have suddenly taken to surfing?). Life is what you make of it. I intend to live my life to the full.
