Introduction
The MegaMall Building Corporation wants to build a mall in an area of
your town where a wetland is located.
As experts in fields related to the study of
wetlands, the
four of you have been asked by residents who oppose the mall to gather
information
and present it at a town meeting.
Will your facts and opinions help
your town save the wetlands?
Scroll
down to learn exactly what your task is.
|
|
|
Your
team's task is to learn about and present a panel discussion on the
importance of
wetlands. Each member of your team will become an expert on one aspect
of wetlands habitats around the world as you gather information from
web
sites for your presentation. Once you have completed your research, you
will work together to write a script for your panel discussion.

|
The
Process - Roles and
Resources
|
1. As
a team, visit these sites and
read about wetlands. Take notes as you read, and be sure to include the
web site address with your notes. |
|
|

|
2.
As a team,
look at the Expert's Pages below and decide who will be the expert on animals, plants, water, and recreation.
|
3. Once you have chosen your roles, each of you will go to your own
Expert's Page and
follow the
instructions for reading, taking notes, and answering the
questions. |
4. When you have
completed your reading and note-taking, write a paragraph
answering each question asked on your "Expert's Page." |
|
|
|
|

|
| 5. When all of you
have completed your research, you will
work as a team
to write a script for
a panel discussion in which you present your information. You may also
include your opinions about the importance of
wetlands. See the Presentation
Page for more information. |

Conclusion
Did you
know that wetlands were so interesting and so important? Your team has
learned many
interesting facts about wetlands and the creatures and plants that call
them home. You have learned how our wetlands clean pollutants out
of the water and help control flooding. Next time you drive through a
swamp or cross a bridge over a marsh, think about all the complex
chains of life that are going on in that wonderful, watery world.
