In my everyday encounter with other people, I always heard the word
"peace." When I read newspapers, watched TV, listen to the
radio, this word is a common subject. But, is this word really matters?
What this means to us? No doubt, this means life. Peace is not only
our want, but we may feel that it is our need.
Surely
you, like most persons today, want long-lasting peace. People everywhere
are weary of world-destruction, of war. Is there a solid evidence or
reason to believe that true peace will reside here on earth? Is it possible
to live in a world without war? If the answer is yes, how? And who will
bring true and long-lasting peace to mankind?
Really, peace
is hard to achieve. Around the globe, crimes, wars, and terrorism are
elsewhere. They're always threatening people's life. Achieving world wide
peace is truly a greatest accomplishment in history. But some questions
keep wondering the mind of many people. Can government of men bring world-wide
peace?
Peace,
also, reminds me of the text in the Holy Bible that inscribed on the
wall at the UN plaza. Quoted in the book of Isaiah chapter two verse
four, "...they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and
their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against
nation, neither will they learn war anymore." But this is almost
impossible and far from reality. The nations as a whole will never achieve
this goal of true peace. Why? The reality, nations are beating their
plowshares into swords. And you observed it!
Moreover,
the United Nations proclaimed 1986 to be an "International Year of
Peace," with the theme "To Safeguard Peace And The Future Of
Humanity." In support of this, representatives of the world's religions
offered up prayers at Assisi, Italy , but not one of them prayed to the
true and living God, Jehovah. Does God answer such prayers for peace?
The answer will answers the question of, in which God those religious
leaders are praying? If you would asked them, they will give you a different
answer.
For the
record, religious organizations have been involved in the bloody wars
of history, including the two world wars of this century. The most destructive
slaughter in human history!
And what about
their prayers? Then, God says: "Even though you make many prayers,
I am not listening; with bloodshed your very hands have become filled."
(Isaiah 1:15;59:1-3). And what about their asking and calling for peace?
But they were like leaders in ancient Israel. They call out, "there
is peace! There is peace! When there is no peace." (Jeremiah 6:14)
No doubt their cries for peace will continue.
Further,
government around the world today offer the hope that they can bring
peace to mankind. But do you believe this? Is there any solid evidence
from the past or from the present to show that government around the
world are able to bring lasting peace. What does human history show?
Surely, your own experience on life tells you.
In view of this, is it realistic that world governments can bring true
peace here on earth? And, is it also realistic to trust in world leaders
or other men to solve the problems facing mankind? Will you risk your
hope of life in peace on their promise to keep peace? Surely, we do
not want to put our hope and confidence in human efforts to bring true
peace.
If we have
solid evidence showing world governments inability to achieve lasting
peace, where will we hope?
In all of this, only the Holy Bible can give a truthful and straightforward
answer. Surely, we have now reasons to rely on what the Holy Bible had
promised as something believable, practical, and realistic. Truly, the
only true and living God would bring long-lasting peace to mankind.
Today, peace is possible for those millions of people who dedicated
their lives to worship the only true God, Jehovah.
Finally,
you must believe, be optimistic, be realistic, and full of hope. Let
us put trust in God and to his inspired word, the Holy Bible. Keep on
reading the Holy Bible daily. Rest assured that this will enlighten
your path. FIN
