Find out what's new with me

On December 31st, 2000 I submitted my short story These Days of Bloodied Screaming to the Toronto Star Short Story Contest. This is the first actual writing contest I've entered so I have high hopes. I won't know anything until June so I'll keep you posted.

On May 18 2000 I submitted In A Bleecker Street Caf to the Short Story Writers' Showcase . So very recently I got this letter:

Dear Halima and Jack:

Both of you have been selected to have your stories posted on SSWS for the October update!

Your stories are listed on the main page and the new story index for the site's fourth year of operation. Please take a look at your stories and make sure I haven't made any mistakes. The email address I sent this message to is the one listed at the end of your story for reader comments. If there are any problems or changes you need me to make, just write back to me.

Thank you all for your contribution to SSWS!

Sincerely,
Melissa Beynon
Editor, SSWS

Yeah, pretty cool! So now you can go there and see my story.

I recently received a rejection letter from the folks at Broken Pencil for my story Near Wild Heaven but I'm not really too crushed because now when I reread it, I'm not all that impressed with it either. It's good to know they don't publish anything you send simply because you're Canadian.

It took a little while but I finally found my story Coffeehouse 'til Closing so it's there for your enjoyment!

In May I submitted my short story These Days of Bloodied Screaming to The Amazing Authors Showcase and it was accepted.

On May 18 2000 I submitted Fast Car to The Wilmington Blues . So on July 1st I got an e-mail:

Thank you for recent submission to Wilmington Blues. Unfortunately, your work was not selected for inclusion in Issue Five. I encourage you to submit more of your work for upcoming issues.
Regards,
Trace Ramsey
Wilmington Blues

Yeah, big shaft! But hey, that's part of the business, right?

Stay tuned to this page for further updates!
