In A Bleecker Street Caf

I wrote this in 1995, the year I started university. It's pretty short, just a couple of pages. I guess it's important to keep an open mind when you read it, since it's about two girls. The whole point of the story is that heartbreak hurts no matter what your sexual orientation is. This story is also displayed on The Short Story Writer's Showcase. Word count = 947.

These Days of Bloodied Screaming

This one isn't so much about romantic relationships as it is about being thankful for what you have. This story is also displayed on the Amazing Authors Author Marquee. Word count = 1544.

One Little Wandering Western Star

I wrote this in 1996. It's my favourite so far, but be forewarned, it's kind of long. Word count = 8706.

Summer Sang In Me

This is the ultimate "coming of age" story, but it's presented in a light-hearted manner. Remember grade nine? Yeah, me either, but maybe it'll help you remember. This one's a little long too. Word count = 11 072.

Venus In A Half Shell (and Other Tales of Sordid Adolescence)

This one's from 1995 again but after rereading it I'm not so sure it's as great as I thought it was originally. It's all about breaking up and making up, which I'm sure we all can relate to. Word count = 4633.

Fast Car

I don't have an exact date on this but I remember writing it while I was still in high school so I'm guessing it was 1990 or 1991. It's not one of my happier pieces but still enjoyable by any standard. I guess the "moral" is: all that glitters is not gold. Word count = 2411.

One Fish, Two Fish

This is one of the few stories that isn't about romantic relationships or young love or whatever. But it's still okay in a "Lizzie Borden" sort of way. Word count = 3502.

God Has Forgotten

More breaking up! It's almost like a recurring theme. Word count = 1312.

Carl

This story actually has nothing at all to do with my brother Carl, the main character and him just have the same name. That's all. Word count = 1179.

This is No Promised Land

So I wrote this for McMaster frosh as a sort of "welcome to university" thing. Those of you who went to university can relate. Those who didn't, well, you can still enjoy it. Word count = 1802.

Uninvited

You ever just break up with someone and then do something so stupid, even bordering on psycho? Hmmmm...fatal attraction. Word count = 1153.

Coffeehouse 'Til Closing

This is a real short one that can get confusing at times. The most important thing to remember is that the names are gender specific so there's actually quite a bit of lesbianism in it (don't be shocked). Word count = 807.

Near Wild Heaven

I wrote this one pretty recently after a fairly substantial dry spell. It's short again but interesting still. Word count = 1510.

One Day, When I Was Lost

I originally wrote this in 1991 under the title "Hunger Pains". I've updated it a little since then. Word count = 4261.

Friday Night Charades of Youth

This is a return to what seems to be my favourite topic: mental illness. Word Count = 2703.

My Forgotten Favourite

Sort of hard to describe what this one's about. I guess this is an example of fan fiction since I stole the idea from the movie Go. Word Count = 1113.
