Nanaki
First off, I can't claim that
Nanaki is entirely my creation.
He's actually a character from a
video game, specifically Final Fantasy VII on the Playstation, where he's
called Red XIII (but Nanaki is his real name). Other than his appearance
and a few background details, they're different.
On to the bio!
Race: Nox
-
Age: Nox have extremely long lifespans, and many
individuals live to be over 500 years old. Nanaki is 49 years old, making
him the equivalent of a 17-year-old human.
-
Gender: Male
-
Height: 3'9
-
Weight: 245
-
Eye color: Soft red-orange
-
Hair: Red-brown, spiky mane
-
Fur: Red, a bit scruffy in some places
-
Clothing: 4 gold bracelets on each leg. He has gold
earrings, 2 in his right ear and one in the left. He has a headdress of
2
blue feathers.
-
Build: muscular
-
Birthplace: Nanaki was born in Cosmo Canyon, a town
located approximately 100 miles west of the GLI, in the Sunset Lands.
-
Current Residence: Golden Lion Inn
-
Marital Status: Married to Sita.
-
Children: He is the father of two cubs; Seto, a male,
and Kiani, a female.
-
Parents: Nanaki's father, Seto, was a well-known
warrior of Cosmo Canyon, who died defending the town from the Gi tribe.
His mother, Sadakko, was killed in the same battle in which Nanaki lost
his eye.
-
Scars or markings: His body is covered in battle
scars. He has intricate tattoos on his back legs, and on his front left
leg is a large tribal marking, as well as a number XIII. Like Sita, he
was also used in many scientific experiments. His right eye is missing,
lost in a battle many years ago. He has small red markings on each cheek,
indicating his status as a warrior's son.
-
Weapons: He is a powerful warrior, who uses his claws
and teeth. Nanaki does not like to fight, however, and only does so when
absolutely necessary.
-
Magical Abilities: Nanaki can use fire magic and
some limited healing spells.
-
Background:
Nanaki was born in Cosmo Canyon, a beautiful
and peaceful town dedicated to the study of all forms of life. His parents
were both respected warriors, and were also believed to be the last surviving
Nox, and the birth of their first child was a much-celebrated event. However,
the peace was short-lived, as Cosmo Canyon found itself under attack from
a fierce tribe called the Gi.
Being the son of two respected warriors, he was
expected to train in the arts of war. This conflicted with Nanaki's peaceful
nature, and it made it even harder when both parents had to go off to fight
the Gi. When Nanaki was ten years old, the conflict intensified, and the
Gi massed all their forces to destroy the town. However, their true strategy
was to send a small group of warriors to attack from the caves behind the
town. Seto learned of this, and before leaving on what was certainly a
suicide mission, gave his last farewell to his wife. Because Seto and Nanaki
were so close, he told her to not reveal the truth of his demise, since
he believed that Nanaki would die of grief if he ever found out. Seto single-handedly
defeated the Gi in the caverns, and was petrified by their poisonous arrows.
The Gi leader was awed by his opponent's bravery, and left Cosmo Canyon,
never to return.
Things did not go as well for Nanaki. His mother
told him that Seto had run away from the Gi, a coward and a disgrace. From
that moment on, Nanaki felt nothing but hatred for his father, who had
given his life to save the entire town. The next few years were spent at
war with other, weaker tribes, and Nanaki soon had the battle-scars to
prove it. When he was 20 years old, his mother was killed in battle, and
Nanaki lost his eye in that same fight. Since he was still very young (in
Nox years at least) he was adopted by Bugenhagen, a kindly old man who
had been close friends with his parents. Bugenhagen and his grandson spent
many hours in his observatory, studying and looking at the stars and planets
with his telescope.
Cosmo Canyon was left in peace. But Nanaki's
life was not so peaceful. One day, while out hunting, he was captured by
a group of humans and was taken to a laboratory. There they performed cruel,
unspeakable experiments on him, then left his body where he had been captured,
thinking him dead. But the townspeople found him and nursed him back to
health.
Many years passed. Bugenhagen, perhaps sensing
his time was near, took Nanaki to show him the petrified body of his father,
telling him the truth about his death. He then told him to leave the town
to search for more of his people. The next day he died at the advanced
age of 130.
Nanaki, saddened by the death of his grandfather,
but feeling empowered by the knowledge that there were more of his kind
in the world, left the town and went north, to the frozen country of Aria...
