Ryan DeFoe recently returned from Boston where he performed with Mikhail Baryshinikov and the White Oaks Dance Project in PASTForward at the Shubert Theatre. Widely considered a master interpreter of the work of Stephen Sondheim, he is the recipient of the 1999 and 2000 Best Supporting Actor TOBY Awards for his performances in Sondheim’s Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd and was named “one of musical theatre’s most promising up and coming talents” by Peter Filichia of The Star Ledger. He has been involved in over 150 productions in both New Jersey and Boston and has worked with such notables as Kaye Ballard, Elizabeth Swados, Andrew Lippa, Rinde Eckert and is currently a student of Tony-Award winner Betty Buckley.

His acting career began with a children’s production of Here’s Love and he has since gone on to perform as Jay-Jay in Sister Week (Centenary Stage Co.), Dickon in The Secret Garden (1997 TOBY Award Nomination), Jason in Falsettos, Huck Finn in Tom Sawyer, Jer ry/Daphne in Some Like It Hot, Jesus in Godspell (1999 GSB Best Actor Award), Charlie in Marvin’s Room, Lord Fancourt-Babberly in Charlie’s Aunt (2000 GSB Best Actor Award), and Dan Connors in The Act among countless others. In April 2000, he launched Lobster Muffin Productions, a newly formed musical theatre production company, with a production of john & jen which he directed as well as musically directed. Ryan can be seen starring in the film "Hit & Run" currently being shown in theatres in New York City. He served as the Boston correspondant/theatre critic for TalkinBroadway.com, reviewing professional theatre in Boston and its surrounding areas for two years. He is currently the Musical Director for the Centenary Young Performers Workshop and his solo album, No Easy Way Down, will be released in August on Brown Glitter Records.
