internship
The Group Theatre Too, a Manhattan theatre collective, is currently seeking volunteer interns for it's upcoming production of "Album" by David Rimmer and the annual event, "The Choreographer's Canvas" at the Hudson Guild Theater in NYC. Interns will have the opportunity to work with Broadway and Off-Broadway professionals as well as Mr. Rimmer himself. The commitment is April 24th to May 3rd, 2009. We are seeking production assistants, lighting technicians, board operators, assistant stage managers, assistant house managers, etc. Please contact Intern Director, Mary Ann Penzero at [email protected].
The Group Theatre Too Internship Program is dedicated to the artistic enrichment of high school and college age students who are gifted, committed and proficient in the performing arts. GTTs Internship Program offers the opportunity to contribute to the company in a mutually collaborative atmosphere. Interns develop an appreciation of the interrelationships of the history and philosophies of their art. Interns work in many different environments from rehearsals to performance.
Interns will collaborate with the production and creative staff by workings as assistants during the rehearsal and performance process. Interns will work side by side with Directors, Choreographers, Playwrights, Designers and more to learn each production members job responsibility. Interns will keep a log of hours and a journal to serve as a tool for reflection.
The Group Theatre Too conducts many workshops from dance training to acting to tech theater. Interns will participate in these workshops when appropriate, and also prepare the space for such workshops. Interviews will be conducted by the Intern Supervisor and GTT Leaders to ascertain the interns knowledge and readiness to participate and determine the most appropriate place in companys projects. Each intern brings individuality to the company. Past internship positions have included Assistant Director, Assistant Stage Manager, Board Operator, Box Office Assistant, Stage Crew, Public Relations and more.
Success in the theatre can be achieved through positive relationships. As part of the Internship, the participating interns will learn to communicate with production/creative staff members and performance artists in a manner that is conducive to professional expectations. Interns may be asked to sit in on production meetings, tech rehearsals and performances enabling them to observe professional standards of communication in the theatre.
GTTs Internship Program emphasizes personal and professional growth. The theatre process allows for advancement in self-confidence, discipline, sensitivity and critical thinking. Interns discover the power of their own words and ideas and learn to make choices to further their careers and craft.
The Group Theatre Too looks forward to providing an internship opportunity for aspiring young artists. We welcome prospective students to contact Intern Supervisor, Mary Ann Penzero, at [email protected] to set up an appointment for interview. You may also contact Justin Boccitto at the GTT office: 212-665-0360.
