Bernard Kaplan

BERNARD KAPLAN works for the New York Public School system and currently serves at acting Principal for Great Neck North High School in Great Neck, New York. Great Neck North High School was rated the 23rd best school in Newsweek magazine's 2006 listing of America's Best High Schools under Kaplan's leadership. His high school has produced a distinguished list of graduates including: Sarah Hughes, gold medalist in women's figure skating at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah; Nikki Blonsky, actress who stars as Tracy Turnblad in the 2007 film version of Hairspray; Andy Kaufman, comedian/actor, known for his role as Latka Gravas in Taxi; and Jon Avnet, producer of Risky Business and director/producer of Fried Green Tomatoes, to name a few. Bernard Kaplan, is a long time educator and was instrumental in the development of GTT's Social Awareness Theatre Program that features the original "respect-your-body" one-act play aftermath. For over 15 years GTT Artistic Director, Michael Blevins, has been an associate of Bernard Kaplan and the Great Neck Union Free School District and regularly conducts theatre/dance rehearsals and workshops for Great Neck North High School.
