Although the carol “I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day” is
one of the church’s classic christmas songs and the
lyrics re-affirm God’s message of peace to the world,
this beautiful hymn is not as well known nor as often
sung as some of the others in our set.
It’s straightforward words and singable one-octave
melody makes it easy to learn and effective as
congregational singing, so it’s included here.
In our christmas performance track of this song the
accompaniment includes 2-measures of
instrumental music between each verse,
which also makes the song easier to sing.

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play.
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along th’unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said.
“For hate is strong, and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,

Till, ringing, singing on its’ way,
