Ender's Game
by Orson Scott Card
Aliens have attacked earth two times already and humans have barely been able to drive them away! Now humans have developed more powerful weapons. They have built a training school for kids who will become battle commanders in the next alien invasion. A boy named Ender is one of those kids.
Ender excels at the battle games even though he is one of the youngest and smallest students. Some of the older kids are jealous of Ender. Some even want to kill him, but Ender must keep his thoughts focused on the bigger battle. The third invasion may arrive any day. Everything will depend on Ender.
This is a great science fiction book that I can't wait to read again! I would recommend it to all older readers who love action, space battles and books set in the future.
Ender's Game will keep you turning pages!

Original poetry by Nicholas
Puzzle
Pieces to a puzzle
What will they make?
A dog, a boat, maybe a plane.
Hour after hour,
How many pieces does this have?
I though it had 25
But the box says 2,000!
Oh - Forget it!

Math Challenge
You have just built a new in-ground pool in your backyard. It is a round pool that is 20 feet across and 6 feet deep. Now it is time to fill it. It takes about 7.5 gallons to fill one cubic foot. Unfortunately, all you have are your kitchen sink and a one gallon jug! It takes you 90 seconds to fill up the jug, walk out to the pool, empty the jug, and walk back to the sink. You can only fill the pool for 6 hours every day. (You do have other things to do!) If you work at a steady pace (and don't include calculations for evaporation or rain), how many days will it take you to fill the pool?

E-mail me your answer!
Answer to June Math Challenge: 4 whistles weigh the same as one block.
