Lucy
Middle of Nowhere-1997:
A song inspired by Zac, not written by Hanson. One of the co-writers (or was it producer?) they were working with decided that Zac needed a song of his own and was trying to brainstorm, when a picture of that piano kid (Linus?) and Lucy from the Peanuts cartoons caught his eye, but instead of the piano kid he saw Zac. In the song, basically, Zac had broken up with Lucy only to realize afterwards that he really loved her, and now he regrets that he gave her up, and that he made her cry. His angelic yet sorrowful voice can't help but tug at your heartstrings.

Little Saint Nick
Rocking Around the Christmas Tree
Snowed In-1997
The cd was mostly covers. I'm not a fan of Christmas songs, but I love this album. Zac's two solos on this CD are two that I can listen to on repeat and not get bored. I focus on the drums, then on his strong voice, and all the other instruments...I'd hate to see how I lose myself in these songs if I was high.

I Wish That I Was There
This Time Around-2000
A song about missing somebody so much when they're not around, and wanting to be where they are. While the song is catchy, I felt it didn't really suit Zac. He seemed too rock star for such a repetitive song. Not one of my favorites, but it's not a bad song.

Misery
Underneath Acoustic-2003
Underneath-2004
The end of an on-off again relationship. He knows that as long as he stays with this girl he can't promise her that he'll always be with her
"...I can't promise that you'll never be lonely, but as long as we're together we can always only be Misery..." He's tired of arguing, of breaking up then getting back together, and this is the finale. "Last night I got off the fence cuz I won't be your fool. On this side the grass is greener than the garden that I used to grow..." Suprisingly catchy for a bitter song. Definately one of my favorites. It suits Zac very well.

Broken Angel
Underneath-2004
The first time I listened to this song, I wasn't so sure of the high notes because again, Zac seems too rock star. The second time I listened to this song, I realize how perfect it is. If you haven't heard the song, I'd hate to ruin it for you so I won't really get into it except to say it is perfect. I love this song. It's so absolutely perfect that I won't even dare marr the perfection by using an expletive to emphasize the perfection. It gets higher than an A+, than a Perfect 10, than a gold star. It's just...it's amazing. Zac, you did an absolutely awesome, AWESOME job!!!

Lulabelle
Underneath-2004
He played this at the acoustic concert I went to in October '03 but I couldn't really hear it because some fans have the mentality of a peanut. "Hey, the drummer is sitting at the piano and he's on stage by himself.
This song seems to be a ballad of sorts. Let's demonstrate our appreciation for his talent by screaming real loud so that nobody else can appreciate the song except for us, but we're so busy screaming our appreciation that even we can't hear it. I wonder if he can hear himself? Who cares?! Let's scream!" I got so mad at those twits that I screamed at them "You all should just shut up!!!" they didn't listen, so I screamed it again "Shut the fu-" at that point my boyfriend covered my mouth for he was concerned that Zac would think I was yelling at
him! Nonetheless. It was't until I recieved a copy of Underneath from the US that I got to hear Lulabelle. His voice in this song makes me picture him in a nursery or tucking kids into bed as he sings them a song. It's very touching, and his voice is heartbreaking. This song reminds me of the line in Misery "I could never promise that you'll never be lonely" for he's saying that this Lulabelle is being dragged down by him. He loves her so much but he is unable to give her what he feels she deserves, and because he loves her so much he is setting her free so that she can find better. A very bittersweet song. Actually, a few songs on Underneath make me question Hanson's happiness. Believe, Lulabelle, Misery, Hey, Broken Angel...ecspecially Lulabelle and Believe...I wish there was something I could do to make them happy.
