| OBD I Fault Codes can be retrieved by a handheld diagnostic scanner available at any auto parts store. The scanner is plugged in to the ALDL connector, usually located underneath the driver's side dashboard. Fault codes are not always the final solution to the problem. For example: An oxygen sensor that is giving a "lean" code may be indicative of a faulty fuel pump or mass air flow sensor. Codes are simply indicators of operating conditions in the engine that are not falling within normal range. The onboard computer will display fault codes by flashing the "Service Engine Soon" light in sequence. For example: Code 34 would be displayed as follows: [FLASH] [FLASH] [FLASH] [PAUSE] [FLASH] [FLASH] [FLASH] [FLASH] This will be repeated twice, and the next code will begin after a long pause. Locate your code below and click on it for an explaination. (Coming soon) |
