William Carothers (Carrithers) was the second child of James and Mary (Porter) Carrithers. He was born in the Province of Ulster, Ireland, but the county not now known. He emigrated to the
Colonies with his parents in 1779 as by the oath of allegiance of his father James; removed to Kentucky with {his family in} 1796, married a Miss Jane Calhoun. This was told to me by Mrs. Nancy (Montgomery) Little. It is said that the Calhouns, the McKinleys and the Beards Emigrated from Ireland with the Carothers (Carrithers), and later removed together from Pennsylvania to Kentucky.
