Section 1.2: Before
class even begins: organizing
This section will be
relatively short...
Yay!
Kero!!
I mean, aw! I love to hear you
talk!
uh huh.
Anyway, as I was
saying, this section will be relatively short because the process of getting all
of your back to school supplies is a relatively short process. I mean,
we've been doing it all of lives and now we're experts. Go to Wal-Mart (or
wherever you shop), get x amount of binders, x amount of pencils, etc.
However, knowing how to organize all these goodies is an essential part of your
academic success.
-
One class, one
binder: This is a good rule of thumb. Trust me, I have
fought and screamed against this rule only to have to put my tail between my
legs and admit that it works. It works fine to have one binder for all
of your classes at first, but, as the classes move on, it gets too crowded
and unorganized, and you have to spend 45 minutes of your study time trying
to sort out your notes.
-
It's good to
have a folder in each binder: That way, when the instructor gives
you a handout, you can place it safely and neatly in there until you can get
access to your:
-
Three hole punch:
This is a very essential and valuable tool. This way, you can punch
holes in all of your handouts, and then, not only will it be organized, but
you can place them in chronological orders with your notes.
-
Dividers:
If you want, you can organize your binders by sections. You can
have a notes section, a handout section, a returned assignments section, and
so forth. Also, if you're in a class that is maybe divided into
distinct topics or if it has many reference handouts, you can divide it that
way.
-
Highlighters:
Eek. These are not my favorite things, but essential nonetheless.
I think that's about
it. See, I told you it was short. Now, are you ready to actually use
them?
No,
take me back to Section 1.1 Yea!
Let's go to Section 1.3!
Yawn...
