| Goalkeeper Ian Bennett will offer competition to Paddy Kenny as he becomes Neil Warnock's 7th Summer signing tomorrow, pending a medical, and could soon be joined at Bramall Lane by Olivier Bernard and Esrom Nyandoro. After a lengthy goalkeeper search, Bennett is set to sign tomorrow and offer back up to number one Paddy Kenny. Bennet, who spent a month on loan at Bramall Lane at the end of 2004, follows Rob Hulse, who joined yesterday, down the M1 from Leeds. The length of the contract is as yet unknown, but Neil Warnock has confirmed he will still be on the lookout for a thrid 'keeper. Ex-Forest and Norwich shot-stopper Darren Ward continues his trial with United and could be just the man. He was joined on trial earlier this week by ex-Newcastle and current Rangers left back Olivier Bernard. The frenchman still has year remaining on his Ibrox contract but is yet to get a look in under new manager Paul Le Guen. Bernard was part of the team that beat Scottish outfit Morton 3-1 on Monday night, and he was credited with an assist for one of the goals. Also starting his long-awaited trial this week is Zimbabwe international Esrom Nyandoro. The midfielder, who has been encountering some technical problems with his visa of late, is somewhat of a sporting hero in his home land and was recommended by former Blades winger and Zimbabwe legend Peter Ndlovu. Nyandoro's manager Winston Makamure said today: "Obviously the problems he (Nyandoro) had with the visa are now water under the bridge, he is now in England and getting ready to start his trials which should officially start tomorrow. "Because Sheffield United were not sure whether he would make it there on time, they could not include him on the first team's tour of Scotland where they played a couple of matches. I have spoken to Esrom, I have spoken to the Sheffield management and I have constantly been in touch with Mamelodi Sundowns boss Patrice Motsepe, they are happy and are they in the picture of what is happening. "Although his trials proper will start tomorrow after Sheffield's return from Scotland he has been training at the club and the progress that Esrom will make during the trials will be relayed to Sundowns and within a week or so we should be finding out how it would have gone" Join in with the banter 'On The Kop' - The GOM Forum... |
