SERIES BACKGROUND: The series revolves around a detective named Jim Ellison, a former soldier who spent an inordinate amount of time stuck in the jungles of Peru. During that time, his senses were heightened to superhuman levels, and he now uses these extrairdinary senses to solve crimes. Don't blame me for this concept, I didn't make it up.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: This is the sort of show which makes me wonder why some TV series make it to DVD and others don't. I've seen about five episodes of this series; although it is far from the worst I've seen, I can't believe the first season is on DVD when so many clearly better shows aren't available.
Gabrielle gets about two minutes in this episode, just long enough for her to demonstrate that she's more than good enough to be acting for a living. She does a good job expressing reservations to a co-worker and a great job acting scared as her life is threatened (by thugs who hold her hand close to a highly poisonous spider), but that's all fans of hers get in this episode. As for the episode itself, it's a somewhat better than average entry in the "worth seeing only if you're a fan of Gabrielle's" category, but it still squarely belongs in the category. It has all of the excitement of an accountants' convention, all of the suspense of a fishing documentary - and all of its attempts at humor fall flat.
APPEARING HERE AND ELSEWHERE WITH GABRIELLE: Venus Terzo, who plays Molly in this episode, played Det. Angela Kosmo in Da Vinci's Inquest episodes "The Hunt" and "The Capture" and Theresa Fernandez in "Voyage of Terror." Charles Siegel, who played Professor Hal Buckner in this episode, played a judge in "Advocate's Devil" and also appeared in "Just Cause" episode "Hide and Seek." Myles Ferguson, who played Alec Summers in this episode, also played "Brent Schaeffer in "The Other Mother: A Moment of Truth Movie."
