|
ROLE DESCRIPTION: Gabrielle plays Brenda Summerfield, a cheerleader at Grover Cleveland Alexander High School in Caryl County. Brenda is the girlfriend of Scott Simmons. Simmons is the object of affection of Terri and Margi, two girls in the school who were born on the same date and the same time, a fact that gives them telekinetic powers because of some astrological phenomenon. These two girls have no shortage of venom and spite, and because of them Brenda - not their favorite person to begin with - winds up being sliced to ribbons by flying glass from a bathroom mirror.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: The episode is a lot better than the other one in which Gabrielle appears ("Our Town," second season), and she does manage to last longer in this one, even if her character doesn't fare much better than Paula Gray did. There's a fair amount of humor in the episode, and thankfully the ending of it isn't telegraphed. |

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: She's pretty impressive when her character is using a Ouija board at a party to find out who she's destined to marry, and is forced to spell out "Satan;" the impressive part to me was her job of looking upset at that point. It's a quick scene, but done extremely well, especially given that it's obvious that Brenda is not long for this world and that it's easy to feel bad for her.
NOTES:
1.) I'm told the song playing when Brenda is killed is from Live's first album.
2.) Gabrielle's credit is listed as "Brenda J. Summerfield" on imdb.com, but I didn't see where the middle initial comes from anywhere in the episode or during the closing credits.
APPEARING HERE AND ELSEWHERE WITH GABRIELLE: Denalda Williams, who plays Zirinka in this episode, plated Elinor Groves in "The Other Mother: A Moment of Truth Movie." Garry Davey, who played Bob Spitz in this episode, also played Major Jones in "Moment of Truth: To Walk Again." |
