THE SILENCER -1999
The German version!
ROLE DESCRIPTION: Gabrielle plays Jill Martin, the girlfriend of professional killer Quinn Simmons (Michael Dudikoff). Jill doesn't know what Quinn does for a living and is frustrated by his frequent disappearing acts.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: The movie is far better than average for its genre, and you don't need to be a fan of Gabrielle's to enjoy it - even Michael Dudikoff turns in an uncharacteristically good performance. As for Gabrielle's role, she does a great job of the supportive girlfriend (thankfully, the script doesn't go overboard by having her move to Argentina with Quinn), and it was nice to see her have an important role in the movie. There are way too many movies that have a killer's girlfriend be an unnecessary piece of eye candy, but in this one Gabrielle was given a significant (albeit too short) role (for example, she proves helpful in unraveling the conspiracy) and does very well with it. Particularly impressive was the job she did having Jill tell Quinn that she won't be leaving town with him. Another great job was her performance when Jill tried to break up with Quinn earlier in the movie when he visits her in her classroom.

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: When Quinn tells Jill what he really does for a living, Gabrielle does a phenomenal job on the reaction. It was a similar scene that was one of those which started me on the road to becoming a fan of hers in the first place (her reaction upon seeing a beheading in "Rite of Passage," a third season episode of "Highlander").

MEMORABLE LINE: "What business? You can't tell me, can you? It's just like everything else in your life, one big secret. Where you live, your family, your friends - you know, don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a little mystery, but I don't even have your phone number, because for some reason you don't trust me. So here's your lesson for today - you get what you give. I'd like to say it's been nice knowing you, but - you understand" - Jill, from the aforementioned classroom scene.

BLOOPERS:

1.) While Quinn is in the cab looking reading his assignment, which is to kill Senator Caitin and Jason, the flashback scene shows Quinn and Jason in the hall of a hotel floor after Caitin was shot, something that takes place later in the movie.

2.) During the flashback scene when Quinn hugs Jill shows the senator's speech in front of the environmentalists and his photo op on the atrium, neither of which takes place until later in the movie.

3.) The flashback scene shown when Jason, Jill and Quinn are sitting in Jill's kitchen shows Donovan throwing a drink at J. Edgar Hoover's picture, something that doesn't happen until later in the movie.

4.) When Quinn sends the snow globe to Jason via Jill's address, the address on the envelope says Jill lives at 604-21 Water St, New York, NY (no zip code, although there actually is a 604 Water Street, and the zip would be 10002-8007). You don't need to wait for the credits or to be a native of the Big Apple to know that the movie isn't shot anywhere near New York City, much less the state (and according to the movie's credits, it was "filmed entirely in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada").

APPEARING HERE AND ELSEWHERE WITH GABRIELLE: Michael St. John Smith, who plays Senator Clayton in this movie, also played Ray Shaw in the movie "Dead Man's Gun" (in the "My Brother's Keeper" segment in which Gabrielle appears). Mike Dopud, who plays Danner in this movie, also played a motorcycle cop in "As Time Runs Out." Peter LaCroix, who plays Rodeski in this movie, played a corporal in "Moment of Truth: To Walk Again" and Lester in "Voyage of Terror." Robert Lee, who plays a uniformed officer in this movie, played FBI agent Harold Yen in "Sliders" episode "Summer of Love." William S. Taylor, who plays Detective Keller in this movie, played regular character Philip Reid in "Neon Rider" (Gabrielle appeared in the episode "Where the Buffalo Roam"). Terence Kelly, who plays Neal Donovan in this movie, played a judge in "Jane's House."
