PILATES TWIST
EPISODE 3: PILATES TWIST - "Lacey offers Pilates classes and Oscar takes steps to avoid being buried in a cheap-looking coffin."

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: This isn't the funniest episode of the season, but it does have a few killer moments, to include the saga about Hank's and Brent's shirts.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: When Lacey is sitting in her Pilates class and introducing herself, you can see the back of her left shoulder, and there is no tattoo there. This wouldn't mean anything to fans of "Corner Gas," but was of interest to me because in Gabrielle's "Highlander" role in "Rite of Passage" (third season, fourth episode), there's a tattoo there when her character, Michelle Webster, wakes up in the morgue. Michelle's father mentioned that she got herself tattooed at the beginning of "Rite of Passage," and I often wondered if the tattoo was a prop or if it was mentioned by Michelle's father to explain away a real one.

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: When Lacey is sitting in the booth with Davis and Davis says that an exercise program named after the guy who killed Jesus wouldn't sit well with him, at 11:50 Gabrielle does a great job with Lacey's reaction. This was the second-funniest scene in the episode, and was enhanced by the fact that at 11:03, Davis also chased away Karen by saying something almost as stupid.

MEMORABLE LINE: At 10:12, from Oscar to Emma: "You'll thank me when you're dead."

FUNNIEST SCENE IN THIS EPISODE: When Karen and Davis are sitting in their squad car (16:37), and Davis is too sore from Pilates class to do his job, Karen clocks a speeder at 120 (kilometers per hour) and asks Davis if he's going to pull the driver over. The way Davis says "no" made me laugh so hard I had to put the episode on pause.

BLOOPERS:

1.) When Wanda asks "Pilates? What's that about," her right hand is touching the flyer that Lacey has taped onto the cash register (6:15). A fraction of a second later, her arm is at her side, having gotten there too quickly given the time elapsed.

2.) Just after that (6:28), Lacey runs her finger over the tape in an effort to either straighten the sign or make the tape stick better. Whatever the case, the tape has actually climbed a bit up the cash register and to the right, and the sign is now slanted.

3.) When Davis and Lacey are sitting in the booth and Davis claims that Pilates killed Jesus, at 11:32 Lacey exclaims "What?" At that point, her hair is on her right (viewer's left) shoulder in such a way so that some of it covers her shoulder. The scene shifts to Davis, and Lacey's hair is still visible covering her right shoulder. After Davis' answer about Pilates killing Jesus, the scene shifts back to Lacey. Her hair is now pulled back so that her shoulder isn't covered by any of her hair at all. After that, the scene shifts to Davis a couple more times, and hair is now back on Lacey's shoulder.

4.) As demonstrated in the first episode (when Wanda has a hair blooper), Lacey doesn't have the hair blooper market cornered - in this episode, Oscar joins the ranks as well. At 12:24, when Oscar says "Well, then bring back some (Rice Krispies squares) that ARE square," some of his hair is sticking out the back of his cap. Emma walks away, and Oscar steps into his homemade coffin to try out the fit. At that point, his hair is tucked into the back of his cap with none sticking out.

5.) During the scene where Oscar imagines himself in his coffin with Brent and Emma saying that he was always right, start at about 12:55 and watch the folds of Emma's veil before, during and after her closeup - they change and then change back to exactly how they were before the closeup. (The next scene shows Emma's veil away from her face, but there was enough elapsed time in the scene for her to have changed it if she wished.)

6.) When Lacey sits down at the bar and Brent asks how class was, Lacey's right hand is on the bar. A split second later, right hand is over her left with her right index finger sticking forward. As the scene shifts back and forth between Brent and Lacey, we see one more shot of Lacey with her hands exactly that way (right over left, index finger forward), two of her with her left hand over her right, and then back to one with right over left and right index finger forward, exactly as it was three and four shots before.

7.) After the brief intermission showing Davis unwilling to chase a speeder because he's too cramped up from Pilates to move, the scene shifts back to the bar, where the hand routine starts up again - two shots with the right hand higher, then one with the left higher, three more with the right hand higher, three more with the left hand higher, one more with the right hand higher, and one more with the left hand higher before finally only her right hand is on the bar, which she uses to hit Brent.

8.) Also at this stage (starting at 16:58 when Brent says "Well, I mean, he did kill Jesus"), between the time where Lacey says "It's a different guy," Brent says "Well, he did give the order," and Lacey responds, her hair jumps over her right (viewer's left) shoulder.
