THE OUTER LIMITS - "FROM WITHIN," SEASON 2, EPISODE 13, APRIL 28, 1996
ROLE DESCRIPTION: Gabrielle plays Charlotte, a waitress in a local diner called Taylor's, and one of the many people in the town who become infected with a parasite that makes people lose all sense of reason..

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: The episode is yet another of the many politically correct "don't judge people who are different" lessons you can find in modern television and film, but this one is well enough done to not come across as preachy or annoying. The show itself is a proven product and this episode is a better than average entry.

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: This may well be the best performance of Gabrielle's that I've seen. She doesn't have as much time in this episode as I'd like (the script doesn't really have much wiggle room to allow her more), but this is one of the roles that turned me into a fan of hers. Watch her acting job from the time Jake grabs her until just after the parasite enters her ear when Charlotte loses all her inhibitions - it's simply spectacular. It's not a long scene, but there's not another actress alive who I think could have pulled off this scene so well.

NITPICK: It's not terribly likely that a waitress would wear black high heels on the job, as Charlotte does in the opening scene.

NOTE: Gabrielle's credit for this episode is listed as "Charlotte Nichols" by imdb.com, but I find no mention of Charlotte's last name anywhere in the episode or during the closing credits.

APPEARING HERE AND ELSEWHERE WITH GABRIELLE: Dwight McFee, who played Bruce Johnson in this episode, played Maurey Talbot's father in "Floating Away." Aaron Pearl, who played Clark in this episode, also played Randy Haynes in "Voyage of Terror." Patrick Stevenson, who played Jake Hart in this episode, also played one of the mutineers in "Voyage of Terror" and Mac Odom in the movie "Dead Man's Gun" (in the "My Brother's Keeper" segment, in which Gabrielle plays Louise).
