OH BABY!
EPISODE 4: OH BABY! - "The town takes a keen interest when Brent agrees to baby-sit Wanda's six-year-son."

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: Definitely one of the five funniest episodes in the first season. Especially amusing is when the bar patrons make bets on what injuries Brent will suffer babysitting Wanda's kid, and even funnier is when it becomes clear what Lacey's bet was.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: When Emma explains how to control rambunctious kids.

MEMORABLE LINES:

1.) From Lacey at 15:35, yelling at Tanner: "Aw, come out where we can see you, you little puke - you cute little puke." You almost don't have to see the episode to  see the next quote coming...

2.)From Lacey at 15:54, having just taken the inevitable toy car to the head: "Why do they make cars out of metal? They should know there's a certain percentage of children that are evil."

FUNNIEST SCENE IN THIS EPISODE: When Hank is trying to break into his own truck and Davis points out that the passenger side window is open. A close second is watching Hank have a meltdown in the bar as another customer uses a mayonnaise jar.

NOTES:

1.) At about 3:30, Lacey attempts to trick Brent into thinking he's eating a tofu hot dog with veggie chili. Brent immediately responds with the brand of beef hot dog it actually is, only to have Lacey shrug and say they were on sale. This is likely of the many inside jokes the series seems to have, as Gabrielle is a vegetarian.

2.) Another inside joke: towards the end of the episode, Brent takes a few shots at guessing Lacey's middle name: Esther, Charlene, Gertie, Sunshine and Fern. Gabrielle's real middle name is Sunshine. I'd really like to know where the other guesses came from.

BLOOPERS:

1.) After Brent correctly identifies the hot dog he's been served (3:34), Lacey goes to grab a pot of coffee. There's a book of restaurant checks or a notepad in her apron, but when she goes back to pour it the notepad has disappeared. Having never worn a restaurant apron before and not knowing how big or deep the pockets of one are, I can't tell if this is real blooper or not, but it does look like a disappearing act - on the other hand, it could have simply sank from sight with Lacey's first step.

2.) During the entire time of the scene at the restaurant counter, Brent goes from talking with his mouth full to clearly saying that he loves Wanda's kid, and then back to talking with a full mouth, even though only one bite has been taken from the hot dog.

3.) Watch Brent's hot dog when Wanda asks to be kicked in the jaw (3:42). It goes from having one crescent-shaped bite out of it to having a bite out of it that's almost straight across, and then back to a crescent-shaped bite. No wonder Brent likes the Ruby's hot dogs so much - they actually regenerate.

4.) Also, the bite marks in the hot dog change from when he asks Lacey is she wants to help him babysit (4:32) to her response of "No way, I hate kids," and there wasn't enough time elapsed between the two shots for Brent to take another bite out if it.

5.) Hank's beer bottle mysteriously moves between the time he tells the "moron" that he can't pick up the ball and run with it (starting at 5:08) to the time he asks Paul to put $10 on Ireland (5:16), even though he never touches the bottle. Focus on the label and the movement will become clearer.

6.) Look at the bottle in front of Hank just as Lacey asks "He's six, what - did he overpower you?" From 6:56 to the point where Hank points out Phil, the bald guy playing pinball (7:06), the label remains in the same position. After the angle shifts back from Phil to Hank (7:14), when Hank says "Ever since that night, he hasn't been able to go ten seconds without looking behind him," the label makes a shift of about 90 degrees counterclockwise towards the camera. The scene shows Phil again, and then switches back to Hank at 7:21, where the beer bottle is back in its original position.

7.) Going back to the scene where Lacey asks "He's six, what - did he overpower you?" (6:57), her hair at that point is all behind her shoulders. In the next scene she has a lot of hair over her left (viewer's right) shoulder. To be fair, there were a few seconds for her to put it that way, but her left (viewer's right) hand doesn't move at all between the two scenes.

8.) During the same scene, from 7:04 to 7:16, the scene shifts back and forth from a closeup of Hank, Brent and Lacey to a shot of Phil with those three in the background, and then back again. During the scenes where Lacey is shown in a closeup, her head is straight up, but in the background scenes her head tilts down towards her left shoulder.

9.) During those scenes, Lacey is sitting farther to Brent's left (viewer's right) during the shots showing Phil (for obvious reasons, otherwise she'd be harder to see).

10.) When Brent gets to Wanda's and she gives him phone numbers necessary to babysit, he asks why the police and ambulance numbers are listed first. When Wanda opens her mouth to respond her head is looking down, but a fraction of a second later (literally) the angle chances showing Wanda with her head up, facing Brent.

11.) At 12:26, just at the end of Hank's meltdown after seeing the mayonnaise bottle, look closely at the bar and notice the absence of any beer bottles, even though a brown bowl (peanut dish or whatever it is) is visible. A bottle then appears, disappears and appears again just as Hank runs out the door (12:42), about a foot to the left of the bowl, where it should have been visible at 12:26.

12.) Oscar nearly starts a fire in the gas station at 14:56. It's already dusk outside, especially visible through the front door as Oscar stamps out the fire with his foot. However, from that point on every scene showing the outside shows bright sunlight.

13.) At 16:42, Lacey is saved from a flying car by a pillow. The car was thrown directly at her. At that point, the angle switches and we can see where the car would have been thrown from - there was only six feet between Lacey and the wall in front of her.

14.) At 17:00, Brent is standing against a wall being bombarded by toy cars, looking around for Tanner. He races to the door and lets Emma in, Emma comes in and the camera angle switches to show the part of the house that Tanner had to be standing to throw cars at such an angle. It's inconceivable that Brent couldn't have seen Tanner when the cars were being thrown at him, especially since it's clear that there was no furniture for Tanner to hide behind.

15.) Even if Tanner was where the cars were thrown at 17:00, given the layout and the fact that he'd have to cover twice the distance Brent did, there's no way he could have gotten there before Brent got to the wall. If the kid is capable of such rapid movement (which is, of course, is part of the joke), it's no small wonder why everyone in town was placing odds on Brent's impending hospitalization.

16.) When Emma walks in (17:13), she's wearing a grey sweater. After a couple of sarcastic remarks, she notes that Lacey is there, too. The shot of Lacey, shown from Emma's back, shows Emma wearing some sort of greenish / brownish sweater with yellow stripes. When Emma then catches a car thrown in her direction, you get to see enough of the back of her sweater to know that the back of her right sleeve does not have stripes.

17.) After Davis tells Hank that his passenger window is open (18:08), watch the coat hanger in the window of the driver's side. It is hanging straight down on the outside until Hank runs around the front of the truck twice to open the driver door (it's a hilarious scene), but when Hank opens the door it's sticking out away from the truck.
