MAIL FRAUD
EPISODE 37 - MAIL FRAUD: "Brent's annual trip to exotic locales stirs jealousy and resentment back in Dog River."

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: This episode is another classic, easily within the top ten of the series' 50 episodes to date. The main plot revolves around Brent's allegedly multi-country vacation, all of which takes place on a lawn chair a few dozen yards in front of Corner Gas. Lacey, unable to understand any of this, inadvertently ruins Brent's trip. One side plot has Karen going so far out of her way to make sure Davis does his fair share for a potluck meal that she screws herself over to the point of exhaustion - and Davis, through no effort of his own, becomes the hero of the gathering. The third plot has Oscar trying to make his way through the Internet - and if you're familiar with the show, you don't need to be told how funny that idea is. The ideas behind all three plots are simplicity itself, but what is made of them is a true testimony to the genius of the show, its creators and its actors.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: The second Lacey, who has heard so much about Brent's exotic vacation, sees Brent in a lawn chair in front of Corner Gas. The expression on her face is priceless.

MEMORABLE LINE: "Hank, he's not lucky - he's delusional" from Lacey regarding Brent's trip.

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: She's absolutely brilliant from start to finish as Lacey proves completely incapable of handling the "staycation" concept. This episode represents her best comedic work of the season, which is really saying something considering how good her work is in other episodes.

FUNNIEST LINE IN THIS EPISODE: Brent's "postcard" to Lacey: "Dear Lacey - I can't help but get the feeling that you've ruined a good thing. Wish you were here so I could thank you in person."

FUNNIEST SCENES IN THIS EPISODE:

Much like the previous episode, there are a ton - so keeping it in check to whatever extent possible I present these:

1.) When Lacey tries to talk to Brent and is stopped by Hank and Wanda. The way she is instantly swept away by those two is unbelievably funny and is one of the two three funniest scenes of the entire season.

2.) When Lacey asks Oscar if Brent's vacation isn't a little bit strange, and Oscar answers her.

3.) When Lacey, the only person in the town unable to understand the "staycation" idea, points out that the Aruba postcard is actually a Dog River postcard with "Aruba" written on it.

4.) When Oscar wonders aloud how many Emmas could be in the Internet, and we learn where Oscar's e-mail wound up.

5.) When Lacey demands an explanation from Brent and Brent answers in "postcard talk."

6.) The way Lacey walks off in exasperation after hearing Brent's" postcard."

7.) The e-mail exchange between Oscar and Emma.

8.) Hank explaining what he imagines on trips.

9.) Lacey convincing Hanks of the existence of a vacation spot called "Fadrid."

10.) Oscar's repeated attempts to use computer lingo.

11.) When Wanda and Hank send "postcards" to Brent and he responds by sending a "postcard" to Lacey.

12.) When Lacey apologizes and Brent says it isn't her fault, and then elaborated as to what she did.

13.) When Lacey tells Hank about her staycation and Hank says "You're not in the south of France, you're stuck here with the rest of us!"

14.) When Karen gets what's coming to her after all of her scheming to make Davis do his share.

15.) When Davis and Emma combine to kick Oscar off the Internet by convincing him that he "attached some infected blogs that firewired themselves to the ziplink on the mainframe" and Davis gets a main course for the potluck in exchange for his help.

16.) When Davis gets a round of applause at the potluck meal while Karen is busting her ass.

17.) When Lacey proposes a toast to Brent and he points out that the drinks haven't arrived yet.
