KEY TO THE FUTURE
EPISODE 33 -KEY TO THE FUTURE: "Hank's dream premonitions freak Wanda out while Lacey learns how not to fix a pothole."

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: A monster episode that is hilarious from start to finish. The scene before the opening credits ranks among the top five episode openers in the history of the series, and the roll continues from there. From Lacey dealing with a pothole to Hank being "psychic," this episode easily ranks among the top ten in the entire series. Only a relatively lukewarm plot regarding Davis and Karen losing their keys keeps it out of the all-time top five.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: When Wanda points out that only an idiot would believe The Howler, and the shot shifts to Lacey. The scene is very funny, but is also the only scene I know of that implies that Lacey is stupid or even has the potential to be.

MEMORABLE LINE: "Maybe science should lighten up" from Brent.

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: The concept of Lacey as the outsider whose every attempt to make things better backfires has given her a number of great opportunities to run with her comedic talent, and this episode is a great example. She's quite funny every time she's given an opportunity to be in this episode, especially when she has a minor fit in reaction to Emma calling the newly-constructed speed bump "contrived." She also does a perfect job with Lacey's tirade about learning "not to get involved" when Brent comes in for lunch.

FUNNIEST LINE IN THIS EPISODE: Brent's nonchalant "Oh, sorry" in response to Wanda's equally hilarious "Hold on a second - Hank's in the middle of overreacting to something."

FUNNIEST SCENES IN THIS EPISODE:

The list of funny moments in this one could well result in a transcript of the entire episode, so I'll limit it to those moments that split my side enough to make use of the pause button:

1.) Brent sounding exactly like Wanda while defending her article use (you can see Wanda sound exactly like this in her analysis of article use in first-season episode "Tax Man").

2.) The suspicious contents of Davis' car trunk (suitable for burying bodies), and the flashbacks that explain it all. Especially funny was the flashback that explained the presence of lye.

3.) The flashbacks showing how residents of Dog River hate change.

4.) The soap opera music and facial expressions after Wanda's hair appointment gets postponed.

5.) Wanda's "Hank is not phycic, and I'm gonna prove it." (That's not a typo in "phycic.")

BLOOPERS: Forthcoming.
