JEREMIAH -
"THE TOUCH,"
SEASON 1,
EPISODE 12,
MAY 17, 2002
ROLE DESCRIPTION: Gabrielle plays Naomi, the mother of a little girl named Elena. Jeremiah (Luke Perry) and best friend Kurdy (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) visit the town of New Hope, where human contact of any kind is strictly forbidden. Naomi has been taken away from her daughter and has been forcibly turned into one of many guinea pigs for a medical experiment.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: I've watched the entire first season DVD set of this show, and although the idea of a post-apocalyptic world is a good one for an overall plot, the series is surprisingly mediocre. The best part of the series, unfortunately, is the ideas behind the episodes instead of the episodes themselves. This episode is one of the best ones of the set, but only because of Gabrielle and J.R. Bourne (who plays the highest-ranking tormentor in the town). Lesser actors would have relegated this to another run-of-the-mill episode in a run-of-the-mill series.

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: She does a superb job of playing a tormented and heartbroken mother, and actually makes you forget that you're watching the most predictable episode of the entire season (which, given the series, is saying a lot). Knowing what's coming from start to finish - even in the lines Gabrielle's been given, no less (for example, the standard Hollywood line about "fear and ignorance" that you see approaching a mile away) - seems a lot less painful when watching her and Bourne, whose skills at playing a bad guy are as good as anyone's.

APPEARING HERE AND ELSEWHERE WITH GABRIELLE: Darren E Scott, who plays a mine guard, plated a sniper in "UC Undercover" episode "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye." Jesse Moss, who plays Neal, played Michael Yaeger in "Due East." J.R. Bourne, who plays Stenn, played Gino in "Liebe auf den 2. Blick" ("Love at Second Sight") and Keith Fitzgerald in "Breaking News" episode "Rachel Glass and the No Good, Very Bad Day." Peter Stebbings, who plays Marcus Alexander, played Kevin Sharpe in "Madison" episode "Bad Girls." Reese McBeth, who plays a doctor, played John McBeth in the movie "Dead Man's Gun" (in the "My Brother's Keeper" segment in which Gabriele appears).
