FLOATING AWAY - 1998
ROLE DESCRIPTION: Gabrielle plays Sugar Cannelioski, the mistress of Maurey Talbot's (the main character's) husband.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: This movie could have been put together by Alcoholics Anonymous, and is filled with characters you couldn't bring yourself to care about even if you had given birth to them. Take my advice - when you see Sugar and her new man get into a red SUV and take off, stop the tape and do anything else that comes to mind - as long as it's legal.

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: Watching Sugar's confrontation with Maurey on the porch of what used to be Maurey's home was one of only two bright spots in this movie (Robert Wisden's performance being the other). Gabrielle doesn't get much time in this movie, and the aforementioned scene with the red SUV is her last, but the porch scene is a good example of how well she handles a wide range of roles - especially when you compare it to some of her other credits. In this scene, she's very convincing as a southern belle, and when the scene is over you're highly likely to be far more on her side than on Maurey's. Once Sugar gets into that SUV, the rest of the movie is the sort of agonizing drivel you could use to extract information from prisoners during an interrogation.

BLOOPER: When you see Sugar get into the SUV, you hear her laughter - but she isn't actually laughing in the shot.

SUPERFLUOUS COMMENTARY: After subjecting viewers to this sort of ordeal and asking us to believe that Maurey could get her baby back so quickly after such a glaring example of child endangerment, the least the producers of this movie could have done is had Sugar answer the door as Maurey reclaimed the kid.
