| ROLE DESCRIPTION: Gabrielle plays Judi, the new love of Jack Purdue Sr., in a town where all the locals are shocked by the pregnancy of a straight-A high school student.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: This movie itself is exactly what you'd expect by reading the back of the DVD, no better or worse than average. Gabrielle doesn't have much time in it, but anyone from the male pig contingent visiting this site will be happy to know that she looks really good in this movie, even by her standards, especially in the last scene in which she appears. SUPERFLUOUS COMMENTARY: The problem with that last scene of Gabrielle's is that it backfires pretty badly. Becky Purdue walks into Jack's place of work, pretends to make pleasant with Judi, gives Jack an "I've overcome adversity, I'm back in the saddle, hear me roar, here's how it's going to be" speech, and then plants a long kiss on him. The scene shifts to Judi, who sees this and, predictably, looks crushed. The problem with this is that scenes such as these only work when the "other woman" is painted as unlikable and the dumped wife is a sympathetic character, and neither is the case in this movie. Becky is an obnoxious alcoholic who by her own admission deserved to get dumped, and nowhere in the movie is there a reason to dislike Judi - in fact, in her first scene, for no good reason, Jack tells her to shut up - so it's easy to feel sorry for Judi even before this scene comes up. As such, what is apparently supposed to be a triumphant scene for the poor mistreated wife and a solid burning of the evil mistress actually left me feeling even sorrier for Judi than I already was, while being even more convinced than before that the first letter in Becky's name is also the first letter of the word that best describes her.
