DRESS FOR SUCCESS
EPISODE 32 - DRESS FOR SUCCESS: "Wanda thinks Brent is putty in her hands after she wears a skirt to Corner Gas."

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: Nowhere close to one of the series' better episodes overall, and a fairly disappointing season opener after a half-year wait, but it is worth remembering that a subpar Corner Gas episode is still better than an above-average episode in any of the sitcom flotsam currently being churned out south of the Canadian border.

One plot, which has Hank and Oscar competing against each other in a fantasy stock market competition. The idea is full of potential and starts out fine, but is goes completely overboard when Oscar borrows ten thousand imaginary dollars from Brent. Another has Wanda thinking Brent is giving her special treatment because she's wearing a dress, but it really doesn't go anywhere in terms of the level of humor one would expect from this show. A third has Lacey going through hell because of a broken dishwasher, which isn't so funny by itself but is turned into decent humor by Gabrielle and Janet Wright (who hilariously teaches us what a "patronizing point pie" is).. The funniest plot in the episode is the one which gets the least attention - Karen's non-stop attempts to get Davis to puke his guts out.

On the bright side, Corner Gas fans only had to wait one week after this one for an episode worthy of the series' high standards.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: Karen's sarcastic "eek" in response to Davis' attempt to scare her with a rubber spider. I name this as the most memorable largely because this actually made me laugh hard enough to bring tears to my eyes.

MEMORABLE LINE: "Hold my monkey" from Brent to Oscar.

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: She's just perfect as Lacey tries to cope with the added workload after her dishwasher breaks down. Particularly funny was her smiling and friendly demeanor as she deals with customer who complains of a dirty glass and having to use her entre fork for her dessert. She also has a very funny meltdown in front of Emma as she vents about the hell of washing dishes.

FUNNIEST LINE IN THIS EPISODE: From Karen, who is enjoying her attempts to nauseate Davis: "We're getting to know each other. Let's celebrate with glass of room-temperature cream."

FUNNIEST SCENES IN THIS EPISODE:

1.) When Karen complains about being treated like "one of the guys," and in the next scene Davis asks Karen to pull his finger.

2.) When Lacey says "Oh, well, a little hard work never killed anybody," and without hesitation Karen - with the straightest face possible - points out that hard work kills people all the time.

3.) When the moron at Lacey's cash register starts takes every figure of speech literally. This happens at more then one point in the episode, but is always funny.

4.) When a customer at The Ruby complains about dirt on the top of her glass, and Lacey says "I know, that's why I didn't fill it up all the way."

5.) When Lacey asks Emma if a latex allergy can kill her, and Emma responds with "Me? No. You, maybe."

6.) When Emma says "If you're gonna to stand there, you could help me with these dishes," and Brent says "Geez, I'd better not stand here, then."

7.) Karen's reaction to Davis' lame rubber spider gag. I've already mentioned this once, but it deserves a second mention.
