DOG RIVER VICE
EPISODE 34 - DOG RIVER VICE: "Brent quits coffee and Emma quits knitting in a battle of vice-kicking wills."

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: This one about average for the show in terms of humor content - better than the typical sitcom, but nothing spectacular by Corner Gas standards The main plot, the highlight of the episode, is a bet between Brent and Emma regarding who can last the longest without indulging in a vice (coffee for Brent, knitting for Emma), but the one problem with it is that the diversion Emma finds (Ukrainian dancing) doesn't really lead to anything funny. The side plots (a police ride-along program and Hank letting a PDA take over his life) are funny, but only so-so by the show's standards.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: Just as Brent is about to cave and admit defeat to Emma, she caves and admits defeat to him. This struck me as memorable because if I were in Brent's shoes, I'd never have lasted as long as he did.

MEMORABLE LINE: From Emma: "Oscar, I have known Ukrainians, I have worked with Ukrainians, and you, sir, are no Ukranian" - a takeoff of a famous line by Lloyd Bentsen to Dan Quayle in the 1988 U.S. vice presidential debate. This was hilarious, perfectly delivered, and could only have been better had Oscar replied with "That was uncalled for, Emma."

FUNNIEST LINE IN THIS EPISODE: From Davis, in response to Karen's job complaint about nothing every happening: "Nothing is what the town expects from us, and that's exactly what we deliver."

FUNNIEST SCENES IN THIS EPISODE:

1.) Brent's notion that a limit of three cups of coffee per day is for preschoolers.

2.) When Lacey mocks Hank for playing with bubble wrap, and then tells him to save some bubbles for her.

3.) When Hank calls "shotgun" on his police ride-along with Karen and Davis, and Davis takes Hank's side.

4.) When Wanda asks Brent if a pea under "the royal mattress" kept him up all night.

5.) When Emma sarcastically calls Oscar a "master linguist" and he responds with "Watch your mouth."

6.) When Karen calls "shotgun" and Davis tells her to grow up.

7.) When Lacey calls "shotgun" and Hank gets left behind.

8.) When Hank tells Davis "Be careful out there."

9.) When Ben Mulroney (Canada's answer to Ryan Seacrest, just a lot less annoying) identifies himself in a crisis situation and the response is "Let him through!"

10.) When Paul offers Karen a beer and she says "No thanks, I'm off duty."
