"Teaching math has always been fun for me. I was really good in math when I was younger and have always enjoyed doing it from then on. This semester I learned a lot more about how to use math in the field which has been different from just learning the skills. I learned a lot about how to get my students involved, like using meaningful games and manipulatives, using problem solving strategies to help students generate thinking skills, and having students do hands on activities. Having students communicate is also key in a successful math setting, without communications students who maybe struggling may never get that opportunity to get the help they need or see how to solve something in a different way then what they did. To me learning these strategies has really opened my eyes when developing my math lessons as well as other lessons. Making students interested in what they are learning is going to leave a bigger impact then teaching something out of a book. These strategies and ideas have really shaped me as a teacher as well as understanding the importance of making things meaningful." |
