Title: What Time is it Miss Fiore's Class? Grade: 2nd Grade Object of Game: The object of the game is to have each group show the correct time that is given to them and which ever team gets the most times correct, wins the game. Rules: 1. Students must be in groups of 4-5 students 2. Teams are not allowed to talk to other students or other teams, just the members of their group and with a quiet voice. (Anyone who shouts or who is acting poorly will be asked to not participate.) 3. Students have to use the string to represent the hour and hand on the clock (students will be eliminated if the times are not represented with the string provided) 4. Teacher will hold up a time and students must show the time on their clocks drawn out on the sidewalk or pavement. 5. When students feel they have an answer, students must lay down the string and place their flag on the stand, which will determine who is the first, second, third place teams. (if studnets get the answer wrong, move on to the next group who had finished. Description of Game: The game works like this. If it is a nice day out, bring students out to the pavement with lots of space. Have students break off into groups of 4-5 (Highly recommend 4 people in a group.) Once students form groups, they must draw out their clocks on the pacement. Teacher will check to make sure that their clocks are all right. Once clocks have been checked students will then receive two pieces of string. One that is long and one that is short. Students will use their string as the hands on the clock. Teacher will then show each group a card that has a time on it. Students will then have to talk with their group members to come up with how to represent their time. They will have to place the strings to show the hour and the minutes. Once a group has finished, they have to place the first flag in a stand and that will show the order of when each group finished. Once all the groups have finished the teacher will go around to the first group to finish and check their time. Teacher will be checking for their understanind of which string is the hour hand and which string represents the minutes hand. Teacher will also be checking to make sure that the time is correct. Once that is determined, teacher keeps going on till there is a winner, or you run out of time in the day. |
