Political parties in Friland

Introduction
In order to keep democracy transparant, the income and expenditure of all parties have to be public. This way, nobody can influence Frilandic politics without the knowledge of the people. Seats always belong to the party that gained them, no matter who occupies them. When a politician leaves his or her party, the seat remains with the party.

    Former parties
The following parties are no longer active but did play an important role in Frilandic history:

  • Frihalsalika Fluk (FF) (Liberal Party): Supporter of the so-called night-watchman state and against protectionism. Merged in 1970 with MA and FW into the MFA. (1970 > MFA)

  • Metskapalika Arbaižstraust (MA) (Socialist Workers Union): Founded by dock workers in Erlanhuf in the Nuržland shire. It strived for a higher minimum wage and better working conditions. (1970 > MFA)

  • Frižalika Wag (FW) (Pacifist Movement): Also known as the 'Hippie party' due to its strive for world peace, legalizing of all drugs and abolishment of the armed forces. (1970 > MFA)

  • Aiwangeliska Fluk (AF) (Evangelical Party): Party of the Protestant minority that merged with some Catholic splinter parties in 1985 to form the KF. (1985 > KF)

  • Ferna Sed Hans (FSH) (Multitude of the Ancient Tradition): Party that was based on the norms and values of Ferna Sed, the native Frilandic religion. It later joined the ABF, a party with so many Ferna Sed supporters that it made the FSH superfluous. (1952 > ABF)

  • Žeudisk Metskapalika Arbaižsfluk (ŽMA) (National Socialist Labour Party): The Frilandic nazi party existed from 1926 to 1942 and received considerate support from the population, something that many Frilanders still find very shameful. Although Friland remained neutral, the ŽMA planned a coup d'état so that they could afterwars join the war on the side of the Axis powers. The conspiracy was discovered in time and the party was banned. The leaders of the ŽMA were convicted for treason and hung. (banned in 1942)

  • Fulkslandalika Traust (FT) (Republican Union): Wanted to abolish the monarchy and replace it by an elected president. However, due to the popularity of the then queen Gawiža they did not manage to gain enough support for it. The party liquidated itself in 1995. (liquidated in 1995)

  • Lausungsfluk fur Frilandisk-Kumanga (LFK) (Liberation Party for Frilandic Kumanga): From 1961 onwards the LFK served the interests of the Frilandic autonomous region in Kumanga and strived for its unification with the Kingdom of Friland as an overseas territory. Due to a lack of success the Frilandic branch of the LFK was liquidated in 1975, although there is still a Kumangan branch that strives for as much authonomy as possible. (liquidated in 1975)
