Education

School ages and education stages
The school age is from 4 to 18 years. The following stages can be passed through:

  • Kindergarten (duration: 2 years)
  • Primary/Elementary education (duration: 6 years)
  • Secondary education (duration: 4 to 6 years, depending on the level. The options are low, middle and high)

    Equal chances
To offer everybody an equal chance in education the government gives subsidy to children whose parents can not afford the education themselves. For children who need this there is additional coaching available. There is also a strict anti-bullying policy.

    Types of education
Besides public education, which is the most common in Friland, there is also special education. Examples of this are religious education (mainly Ferna Sed or Christian), special learning methods (independent learning, lessons via the internet, etcetera) and education for children with special needs.

    Home schooling
Home schooling is allowed but for this a certified teacher has to be hired. Children who can't come to school due to a long-term illness, can get lessons via the internet. Frilandic children abroad can also follow these lessons.

    Universities
There are universities in Aldungan, Anstarburg, Arinhaim, Bergan, Dunwik, Erlanhuf, Gennung, Glitstad, Hwarbgard, Lindan, Riksgard, Saltwik, Skandarburg, Spirdung, Stolburg, Tillau and Twaibak.
