| A ruby is a corundum. Rubies are red, caused by small impurities Cr2O3. They have a hardness of 9, the second hardest next to diamond. Rubies are used as an abrasive. The corundum crystal is tridonal. Rubies are fluorescent under ultraviolet light. Rubies are found in crystalline limestone deposites and gravel. They are commonly found in Burma, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. |
