Febuary--the Amethyst
SiO2
The amethyst is the violet variation of quartz.  This purple color is caused by a small amount of iron or irradation in the quartz.  This happened when the quartz was forming.  The color can range from light purple to a dark purple.  The streak is uncolored.  Amethyst has a hardness of 7.  It has specific gravity of 2.65-2.66.

Amethyst comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "remedy for drunkness".  In ancient Greece it was believed drinking wine from an amethyst cup prevented the effects of alcohol.

Amethyst was one of the first gems ever used.  It was worn in the rings of bishops.
