The 4-Way Test...

Signature Project:

ROTA-CLOWNS

"Bringing joy and hope to children, as we heal the wounds brought about by ignorance, poverty and armed conflicts in their very young lives."

No other symbol is more fitting than the clown to capture the essence of these two projects as reflected in our mission-statement above.

Rota-CLOWNs I: Rotary Clinic On Wheels Network

Mobile X-ray vans and clinics. Our goal is to purchase one van this year

TB is still the country’s No. 7 Killer

Tuberculosis victimizes both children and adults. Those who have contracted the disease often keep it to themselves to avoid public humiliation, thereby increasing the chances of transferring it to others. The living conditions in the urban squatter colonies in the metropolis serve as ideal breeding grounds for the uncontrolled spread of the killer disease.

Children are vulnerable to catch the disease from adults and playmates. Rota-CLOWNs (Rotary Clinic on Wheels Network) will help identify possible TB carriers in target communities, implement and supervise the completion of the Directly Observed Treatment system (DOTS), to see to it that proper medical attention had been introduced.

During follow-through visits, the mobile vans can double as community library, bringing audio visual shows during treatment sessions. We will also serve food and snacks to the children and adult patients.

Rota-CLOWNs II: Rotary Community Library On Wheels Network

Later, Rota-CLOWNS II: Rotary Community Library on Wheels Network will be separately developed to make learning fun and enjoyable, thereby bringing both education and hope to children in the depressed communities.

We will also serve food and snacks to the children and adult participants. Our goal is to be able to purchase one van next year.

In both of the above instances, the Rota-CLOWN vans will be donated to, owned and maintained by PHP Foundation in Asia, Inc.

The Four-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?

  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Club to introduce R.E.S.C.U.E. Programs 1 & 2 in our adopted barangay

R.E.S.C.U.E. 2

.

To serve as the framework for the implementation of its various projects in Barangay Masambong, in line with its  "focused community development initiatives", the club introduces its R.E.S.C.U.E. Programs.

R. E. S. C. U. E. stands for Rotary's Emergency Support to the Community's United Efforts. It has two parts. On one hand, Rotary will endeavor to identify and respond to the community's needs. On the other, the community should be encouraged to unite and organize themselves to develop the capability to address some of their needs as they may arise.

R. E. S. C. U. E. 1 is designed having the coming rainy season in mind. Three of Bgy. Masambong's depressed communities are situated beside a creek.  They are situated so low that water rises to waist-level after a two-hour downpour of heavy rains. At least, a fourth depressed area is spared from this.

Affected residents are immediately evacuated to the tennis court, which is the only covered area that can accommodate them. The nearby school buildings cannot serve the purpose because they too are flooded. One can only imagine their plight in the height of a strong typhoon. The club will endeavor to prepare pre-packed food, which will be ready for distribution in times of immediate needs. It will develop and coordinate with institutional partners to address the emergency and disaster preparedness of the people while there is still time.

"Quick H. E. L. P. Check" survey

To serve as the basis for the club's immediate. mid-term and long-term interventions in the barangay, we will conduct a Quick H. E. L. P. Check survey, which will cover the areas of Health, Environmental management, Livelihood, and People's participation in addressing their own affairs.

The Quick H. E. L. P. Check survey, which need not be very extensive, will be conducted per household by clusters.

Survey results will help to properly identify, quantify and catalogue problem areas and concerns to serve as the basis in plotting  the corresponding programs to address and possibly resolve them.

Com-Dev  Partners of RC Masambong

The Com-Dev Partners of RC Masambong replaces the proposed  Cyber Partners of eClubONE as one of our signature projects.

It is designed to  serve as a clearing house for those individuals who may actually qualify for Club membership, by having their convictions and dedication to the ideals of service tested in actual service projects involvement before bringing them over to full Rotary membership. This assures good quality members in the future.

It may also serve as an avenue to involve non-Rotarians who may have the interest and dedication to serve others, but are prevented by their economic realities from living up to the minimum financial requirements of Rotarian membership.

It is also designed to encourage cooperation between the Club and other non-Rotarian services organizations in pursuing possible joint projects. It is further an avenue to explore inter-Rotary club cooperation, to explore possible direct assistance, sister club and/or matching grant arrangements.

QUEZON CITY RED CROSS. RC Masambong had made representations with the Quezon City  Red Cross, through its administrator, Mrs. Annie Torres, who agreed to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the club as one of its institutional partners in providing assistance to Barangay Masambong, and in working together to transform Barangay Masambong  into a model community.

The RC Masambong-PHP Foundation in Asia Partnership. The Rotary Club of Masambong further enters into a partnership with the PHP Foundation in Asia, Inc. to jointly work together in addressing the long-term needs of the community by providing livelihood projects and empowering the people through their direct and more active participation in solving their own problems and in the affairs of the community.

The RC Masambong-PHP Partnership will also help address important health concerns, particularly those affecting women and children.

After the rainy season will be over, the R. E. S. C. U. E. Program can shift gears and become  Rotary's Economic Support to the Community's United Efforts (R. E. S. C. U. E. 2), focusing on livelihood training and development. Micro-lending assistance can be introduced whenever feasible. Cooperative development can also be explored and supported.

The possibility of developing a livelihood project surrounding the production of sambong tea and tablets on a commercial-scale is being highly considered.
