The following information should prove useful when creating a character for the Confederation of Planets campaign:

  1. Ruleset: This campaign will be run using the Traveller d20, aka T20, system, with exceptions as noted on this website.

  2. Ability Scores: All character ability scores will use a modified version of the Nonstandard Point Buy method, found among other places in the DMG, pg 20. Player characters and important non-player characters will have 48 points to spend on their eight abilities (Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha, Edu, Soc) and initial Psi Rating. Lesser NPCs will have 38 points, and will generally simply select the following array of attribute scores and arrange as appropriate (16,15,14,13,12,11,10,8,8). Average citizens will simple have a ten in every stat. Note: this method is used to generate base ability scores, before racial and homeworld modifiers are applied.

  3. Races: Currently, the only race available to play is Human. Other races will become available as they are encountered and posted here on the website.

    Human:

    • Medium size
    • Human base speed is 9 meters.
    • 1 extra feat at 1st level.
    • 4 extra skill points at 1st level and 1 extra skill point at each additional level.
    • Automatic Languages: Anglic, and Homeworld or National language.

  4. Homeworlds: Homeworlds are chosen by the player, not randomly determined. Below is a list of homeworlds for the campaign setting, organized by race. Note that the TL of a character's homeworld can affect their Edu ability score.

These will be posted after the world data has been posted.

  5. Stamina Points: Every character receives full stamina points at first level. For each additional character level, the character receives a number of hit points according to the new class level by taking half the maximum value for the class and adding one (i.e. d4=3, d6=4, d8=5, d10=6, and d12=7), plus their Con modifier.

  6. Maximum Terms Of Prior History: All human characters are limited to a maximum of seven (7) terms of Prior History, although they may certainly elect to serve less than seven.

  7. Starting Level: All characters determine their starting level by going through the Prior History process described in the T20 Traveller's Handbook (THB).

  8. Starting Wealth: All characters determine their starting wealth from adding all wealth earned as they proceed through the Prior History process described in the T20 Traveller's Handbook (THB).

  9. Starting Technology Levels: All human characters with service class levels are restricted to TL11 maximum equipment and skills. All other human characters are restricted to TL10 maximum equipment and skills.

  10. Concept: It is the player's responsibility to create a character that can work and play well with others. If the character can't, then the player shouldn't be playing that character in this game. If the party has to split up, the amount of time each "side" gets will be proportional to the number of members in that group, modified by the importance of the group's activities as they relate to the group's goals. For example, rogues that are always going off for breaking and entering that isn't in line with the party's goals will get very little "air time," compared to the rest of the group and their pursuit of the party goals.

  11. Note on Multi-classing: There are no penalties for multi-classing in T20. In fact, it is highly encouraged to help achieve the character concept the player is seeking, so long as the character meets the requirements for multi-classing as defined in the THB. The player must be aware that his class selections should be in accord with the events that have occured to the character, whether in Prior History or within the context of the gaming sessions. If there are any questions, please consult with the Referee.

  12. Note on Experience and Training: The character gains its initial experience and training through the Prior History process. Once the game has begun, experience will be awarded at the end of each adventure, and training to advance in level is assumed to occur during downtime, such as while the ship is in jumpspace between worlds.
