An open letter regarding the T20 Adventures: Voyages of the Magellan website:

"A new Traveller ruleset, Traveller D20 (aka T20), has been released by QuikLink Interactive, Inc. That can only mean one thing: a new T20 campaign must begin in earnest. This website is dedicated to that campaign, and to those dedicated gamers who play Traveller, whatever version might grace their tables.

Imagine, if you will, a brave new milieu, an alternative Traveller Universe (ATU) which could serve as the setting for an exploratory campaign. The Confederation of Planets is the result of such ponderings, and is presented here both for the players of the campaign, and for Traveller referees and players to enjoy, as well.

The campaign is centered on Earth's expansion into the surrounding star systems. Toward this end, we will be using the Solomani Rim starmap and physical stats for UWPs, but the rest of the UWP information and all of the background information, while inspired by the Official Traveller Universe (OTU) will be created anew for this campaign setting.

With this milieu, the year is 2350 AD, and Earth has had jump technology for over 250 years. The military has only recently developed Jump-2 capacity (TL 11), but it is not yet available to the public. The United Nations expanded into the Solar System during the 2000's, leading to a System War before jump drive was discovered in 2087. SLT colonization efforts to Alpha Centauri were then replaced by jump-based colonies, and now Terrans have populated much of their own subsector and a small cluster of worlds in the adjacent Sirius subsector. Two centuries of government under the less-centralized United Nations fell to an internal coup by a military movement, and the Terran Worlds have now reformed as the Confed (Confederation of Planets). The Great Civil War ended about a decade ago, and the Confed has established a strong military control over Terran space.

The first major difference between the Confederation and the OTU is the absence of the Vilani to coreward of Terra. That's because the Ancients, as the OTU understands them, are also absent from this setting. Humans are only native to one world, our world of Terra, and exploration has yet to discover another planet populated by humanity deposited by some longlost race.

As far as other alien races are concerned, the Terrans have yet to experience First Contact. The people of the Confed have only encountered the ruins of a previous interstellar civilization, and those areas are interdicted under Confed military control. (That way, we can have some Ancient-inspired adventures going on.) However, stray radio signals, etc, have made the Terrans aware of three other interstellar societies that are active about them: one to coreward, one to rimward-spinward, and one, much more distant, to rimward-trailing. The Terrans has not made any contact with these societies, and there are a number of public opinions on how the Confed should approach them, should contact ever be established.

Another difference between the Confederation and the OTU: Psionics are treated more openly than in the Classic Traveller setting. All psions are supposed to be registered and licensed, because the Confed tracks these kinds of things. Of course, there are rogue psionic groups, including psychic freedom fighters, if a PC doesn't want his/her abilities registered in some database somewhere.

Confed Exploration Forces are preparing to survey the remainder of the Sirius subsector with a long range mission. That's where the PCs come in... The CEF will be assigning the PCs to a new TL 11 scouting vessel, the CSS Magellan, to explore the Sirius subsector. Along the way, there will be a number of adventures dealing with Ancient sites, alien worlds and a number of First Contacts that the Confed was hoping for. However, it depends on the actions of the players as to how those newly-contacted races react to the Confederation.

Besides housing details regarding the Confederation milieu, this website will also be a site for posting Open Game Content (OGC) for T20, in accordance with the Open Gaming License. All Open Game Content will be suitably marked, making it easy to identify for T20 referees and players.

With all of this in mind, please feel free to explore this website, and offer any suggestions or thoughts you might have.

Happy Travellin',
Jason 'Flynn' Kemp"
