Trolls and Ogres, what is the difference?
Ogres are actually Thallain, though trolls that slip into their Unseelie nature are labelled as such also. While Unseelie trolls may look rather ogre-like, they are still in fact trolls.
Ogres are distinctive by their crude appearance, cruder manners and an exceptional lack of intelligence, not displayed by trolls.
The trollish population of Firnost has never been as great as the other major kiths. These solemn, shy warriors keep to themselves largely, leaving the politics to the more vocal kiths - dealing with the more mundane issues of the freehold. Notable trolls of Firnost include Brekke, Ralph Forgerock, Jorn Stonearm, Eric the Silver and more recently, Raye Drekker and Balder Koljbiorn. Brekke was at one point the freeholder of Firnost, though after she stepped down from the position, she took upon herself the task of vote counter for the parliament elections.
Ralph Forgerock stood for a term as one of the first troll representatives after the changing from freeholding to parliamentary rule, although he did not serve a full term in this office, due to personal commitments.
Controversy surrounded the later elected Eric the Silver, who vanished shortly after winning the election, leaving the trolls without an official voice in Firnost. This continued for a brief period at the closing of the year 2000, until Balder Koljbiorn spoke out on the matter, asking parliament to rectify the lack of troll representation.
However, it was not until the next elections that the trolls were to gain a representative of their own, or more accurately, two representatives, Balder and Raye Drekker. Working together to forge a future for trolls within Firnost, their attempts fell short when Balder abdicated from his position, due to the standing laws which disallowed a join seat in parliament.
Since those times, a young troll by the name of Henrick Trueblade has taken on the mantle of representative, and done fairly well in the role, despite a few complaints about his old-fassioned, somewhat strict outlook on what is right and what is wrong. Still, his attitude serves as a model for the behaviour of the honourable kith, and with hope, he will not follow the trend set by his forbears and vanish without so much as a good-bye.
Even if he disappears, no doubt many trolls from far corners of Concordia and beyond will still pass through Firnost delivering their wholesome values and staunch support to whomever they feel needs either.
