Very seldom will you see Firnost without at least one satyr in the place, and I've seen as many as twenty. I'd like to think it's because of the prospect of debate in a hold where every kith has their say, but it might have a lot more to do with the free booze (well, pay-as-you-can, really, and thank you Magdalene) and the fact that there's generally plenty of eye-candy and it's not too tough to get laid. Or maybe it's on account of being a crossing point of so many trods, because it's generally a good place to get news if one wants that, and to meet people from just about everywhere. Lately, things have been a little more uptight than we like, but I can remember a different time, a sort of "anything goes" atmosphere. Might be nice to see that again. Don't even think about playing the Gift of Pan without asking, or folks will come down on you like a ton of shit. Hell, we don't even have the occasional Naked Day anymore. It's a damned shame. Still, it's not so grim that we avoid the place. Many, many satyrs pass through regularly. When I first wandered in off the street these many years ago, the two fixtures I recall were a grump who deserved the distinction named Arak Rencer, and a raven-haired knockout named Kathy. I don't know where Arak has gotten to, but Kathy's still here. I've taken over the post of grouch by the fire, seemingly. Not the role I'd have chosen but Dn is funny like that. Oh, yes - we're rather active in the politics. Generally our role is to shake things up when people are getting complacent, but not necessarily. Mercedes Colomar is a good example of a peacemaker - but then, she's a doctor and that sort of desire to make things better is her to the core. And there are goats who don't want a thing to do with politics, like my friend Angel, or for that matter Kathy (house and title notwithstanding). They find other ways to contribute. But we have firebrands of all stripes, from Moonshadow (when she can spare time from her coursework at Berkeley) whose Seelie in a crunchy-granola kind of way, to Kaylee Hunter, Unseelie as the day is long but with her heart very firmly in the right place. Okay, I don't really condone her claiming to rule the freehold as dictatrix, but it got people to sit up and pay attention, didn't it? See all those seats full on Parliament now? We did that. The satyrs have always had a rep on Parliament, even when other kiths couldn't be bothered. Funny how the blue laws got nailed down in spite of us. Maybe they're afraid that we outnumber them. I think they're afraid of finding out what they really want. Satyr Rep isn't a job I'd wish on anyone (okay - maybe I'd wish it on Kathy, but we have this weird love/hate big sister/kid brother Unseelie/Seelie thing going on. Only thing we generally agree on is she gets the girls and I get the guys and everyone else can fight over the straight kids). Mercedes, bless her soul, held the job three times, but generally we take turns in the barrel. Right now, Gertrude Harris seems to be doing okay, but I'd still like to see the kind of hell Kaylee could raise. Maybe in the Seelie term. Just to be contrary."
