It is during Winter that residents of NSW suffer the greatest threat from smoke and fire in the home. We list below a check list for your safety;
Winter Safety Checklist.
Install at least one smoke alarm in the home

Have a home escape plan in case of fire, and practice it regularly


Only use fuses of recommended rating

Keep portable heaters away from curtains and bedding

Use only one appliance per power point and switch off when not in use


Check electric blankets for any damaged or frayed cords.

Clean the lint filter of your cloths dryer regulary

Place a screen in front of an open fire

Check the chimney is clean and in a state of good repair

Have a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket located in the kitchen near the exit.
