There are a number of different Fire Extinguishers on the market, with each one performing a different task.
Idealy you should have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, (near the exit from the kitchen), one in the garage and one in the car. Below is a list of the different extinguishers and the fires they can be used on.
This is a Water extinguisher
Red Extinguisher
They are used on ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper and plastics.
"NEVER" to be used on energized electrical equipment fires or flammable and combustible liquid, or fat fires..
This is a Carbon Dioxode extinguisher.
Red Extinguisher with a black band
They are used on ordinary combustibles such as paper, wood and plastics, as well as flammable, combustible liquids and fire involving energized electrical equipment as well as fires involving cooking fats and oils.
This is a Dry Chemical Powder extinguisher.
Red Extinguisher with a white band
They are used on flammable and combustible liquid fires, flammable gas fires and fires involving energized electrical equipment. As there are two types of DCP extinguishers some can be used on ordinary combustibles and cooking fats and oils, so check the site of these extinguishers.
This is a Foam extinguisher.
Blue Extinguisher
They can be used on ordinary combustibles and flammable and combustible liquids.
NOTE: Any yellow extinguishers,BCF, (within Australia) are illegal and should be handed into your nearest Fire Station
