JAMIE MARSHALL:'
HEREAFTER' CD OUT NOW
Flowing in on the crest of a wave of peak-period John Martyn and the
tidal energy of Joe Cocker, Jamie
Marshall is still in unchartered waters as far as public popularity is
concerned.
His current album HereAfter
is adult rock from a mature singer/songwriter who possesses a voice to die for.
The melodies are touched by the spirit of blues and his lyrics talk of lost love
and a restless energy.
CD opener She Is In Me relays the tale of the one woman we all meet and
we never truly let go: 'She's in me/Deep inside of me/She's a part of me/She
lives and breathes in me'.
A lovely keyboard flourish rips the heart out of the track as he tries to break
free, and understand how a man can walk this earth alone but have his soul
possessed by another. A great opener and a good indicator to the style and
professionalism of Jamie Marshall.
But the mood of melancholia and the cries from the inner banshee are interweaved
through every note of HereAfter.
The Tricks That Time Can Play is a prime example: 'I was looking through
my postcards/And it made me realise/How minds can so foolish/And hearts can be
so wise.' Adult concerns played out with the experience of melodic maturity.
