JOHN BOTTOMLEY: INSPIRATIONAL ROCK MUSIC
Musical-mystic and award-winning singer-songwriter John Bottomley,
has served up a semi-psychedelic masterpiece in the form of his current album ‘Raggle
Taggle’.
Swathed in guitars, Eastern philosophies and all the principles of The
Waterboy’s ‘Big Music’, this self-produced collection by the
Canadian-born artist floats on a wave of sixties nostalgia, and all that
was great about uncluttered inspirational rock music.
‘Panic Wreck’, ‘Witch Of Atlas’ and ‘Raggle Taggle‘ sound
like they were committed to tape only minutes after being written. A primal-scream
intensity apparently intended ….
Bottomley said: “All I can say is I wrote the songs quite quickly, trusting my
initial feelings, with a certain faithfulness to mystery.”
“A lot of these songs on the record started out as demos,” he admits.
“I’d just call some friends in and say ‘Come on in: I want to put these
songs down.’
“So they weren’t exactly sure where they were going, and as a result their
playing has that fresh-attack quality about it, which can be really
good.”
Stand out track ‘Oh My Love’ comes on all nasally John Lennon,
circa early seventies. Bathed in echoes and rhythmic pulses, it builds to a
crescendo of melodic choral-like layered vocals.
If you like guitars, you’ll love ‘Raggle Taggle’. If you love your
music ‘real’, catch the great man when he comes your way!
