club history |
The Fighting Irish Rugby Football Club was the first club organized in 2000 when the Tennessee High School Rugby League was launched with six teams. Mr. Joe Franklin called the first organizational meeting of what would become the Fighting Irish RFC. Mr. Don Thielke and Mr. Pat McRedmond joined Coach Franklin , and the Irish played Coach Mike Rayburn's Franklin Rebels in the inaugural match of Tennessee High School Rugby. The Irish went on to complete a 5-1 regular season and League Runners-Up in the first Championship Tournament. In the second season, The Irish Captured third place through upper-bracket success in an expanded League that had grown to 10 Midstate clubs and six Smoky Mountain clubs. The Fighting Irish Club has graduated players who now participate as "A" side players on such clubs as Auburn University, Xavier, Tennessee Tech University, Middle Tennessee State and the Naval Academy. |
