Recruit Training, Ft Indiantown Gap

Important Information for Unit Commanding Officers

The staff of Recruit Training Ft Indiantown Gap has been working hard to make this training experience a successful one for your cadets. We are looking foward to the training and growth of every cadet, and hope that they will return to their home units with a better understanding of our cadet program and military life.

In preparation for a successful experience, it is directed that you as the unit CO will inform the cadets and their families and oversee the following matters. There will be NO mailings to cadets or Commanding Officers. Please ensure that all cadets attending this training are directed to this website, and know what is expected. This is a long page, be sure to read it to the end.

All hands MUST complete a Ft Indiantown Gap Release form. This must be filled out and sent with the Request for training, copy of the ID card, and the money order for this training. The Cadet Release Form is found at this link. Use your browser's "back" button to return here. The form for adult staff is found at Adult Release Form

There are two seabag lists - one for males and one for females. Be sure you download and use the correct list. While some of these items may be unusual, it is imperative that your unit and the cadet makes every effort to meet the seabag requirements. It is necessary that names (last, first, initial) and last four digits of the SSN be placed on all articles brought to Ft Indiantown Gap - including the Seabag. A lock for the seabag with two keys (one to be placed in the back of the service record) will also be used for the cadet's locker. Please ensure that cadets and their parents understand what is not permitted to be brought to training. Contraband includes cameras, food, hair dryers/curing irons, electric razors, and any kind of aerosol can. CELL PHONES ARE NOT PERMITTED for recruit cadets OR staff cadets. If it is not on the seabag list, it is not permitted. Contraband will be taken at seabag inspection and disposed of. It will not be returned to the cadet at the end of training. BDUs are not permitted for any cadet, including staff. No patent leather shoes or corframs - NO DISCUSSION! NSCC flashes must be on all outer garments except the raincoat.

There will be no phone privileges for cadets, however cadets will be permiited to receive letter mail only (no packages). The mailing address will be as follows:
Cadet (Name)
ATTN: U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps Recruit Training
Building 9-11, FTIG
Annville PA 17003-5002

Please remember that training is only two weeks, so mail must be sent early if it is to reach the cadet before graduation.

Service records must be in order with all necessary forms filled out properly, including current physicals. All paperwork is to be placed in accordance wth NHQ Administrative Regulations. Dated shot records are esssential for health and safety reasons. This is now a "medically friendly" training. Any cadets with medical needs must have a completed NSCTNG 025. All medications must be in the original container with the cadet's name and all dosing information clearly labelled. Please review the new medical policy for further information. As the Unit CO, you are required to screen each cadet prior to training.

Please ensure that an NSCTNG 008 (Cadet Training Roster) is sent with the unit Service Record packages. This form is used whether the unit sending one cadet or many cadets, even staff. This form helps both at Check-in and Check-out. At the conclusion of training, the following procedures will be followed. Service records may only be claimed by the unit CO, a unit Recruit Training staff officer, or the CO's designate (must be in writing), but they will NOT be given to a cadet. Any Service Record not claimed at the conclusion of training will be mailed in a timely fashion to the unit CO. Please see that we have your current mailing address to insure prompt return of your records.

There is no regular access to washing machines on the base for laundry. We will most likely be able to wash one load during the training. For this reason names and the last four digits of the SSN are mandatory on all clothing. The camp wil provide laundry detergent. It is recommended that cadets bring more underwear and socks than the minimum requirements.

All cadets, both recruits and staff must bring four (4) flat, plain colored, single sheets (twin sized), two (2) pillow cases, one (1) pillow, and one (1) solid colored blanket. No linen will be provided and sleeping bags are not acceptable. These items must also be marked with the cadet's name and last 4 digits of the SSN.

Report time for recruit cadets is no ealier than 1200 and no later than 1600. The exact place will be posted once we have the information. We expect to be in Building 12-12 for check-in. You may use the following address to get directions for your GPS or from a mapping program: 1200 Susquehanna Ave, Annville PA 17003. As you approach this area from State Rte 72, you will see a red and white water tower. Building 12-12 is directly underneath it. Recruits will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. However, cadets cannot be processed without service records. If cadets are travelling separately, be sure that the service records arrive with the first cadet from your unit. Please inform parents and escort officers that, due to the number of cadets being processed at Check-in, they will not be permitted in the cadet Check-in staging area. A place will be provided for them to wait. Parents and cadets must say their goodbyes before processing begins. They must not leave until the cadet has been completely processed. A member of staff will regularly inform parents when cadets are completely processed. We will make every attempt to process cadets as quckly as possible, but please be patient. If COs ensure that all is in order at the local end, Check-in will be a smooth evolution for all.

Recruits are to report in Dress White jumper uniform. No ribbons or nametags are to be worn. Stripes however may be left on the dress jumpers as they will not be worn again until graduation. Stripes must be removed from dungaree shirts.

Officers and staff cadets are to report by 1000 on Saturday, 27 June 2009. Officers are to report in khaki, staff cadets in dress whites. If staff is unable to report at this time, contact LCDR Michael Mooney, NSCC as soon as possible. Due to berthing and staffing contraints, there will be no early check-ins for recruits. All recruits will check-in on Sunday. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Graduation will be held on Saturday, 11 July. The place and time will be available at check-in, and will be posted on the website as soon as available.
